WHILE Scottish voters were waking up to today's referendum result, the wait was also over for iPhone fans as the latest model hit the streets.

Customers queued outside Glasgow's Apple store hoping to be among the first to get their hands on the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus.

In some parts of the world, including New York, customers have been camping outside stores since the beginning of the month.

The price of the latest model starts at an eye-watering £539, far higher than many of its Android and Windows Phone rivals.

Users who want more than 16GB capacity, will also need to cough up £619 for the 64GB model or £699 for the 128GB model.

However fans of the new model have praised its improved screen quality and battery life as well as its new, slimmer design.

The new phone also include a theft deterrent system that enables users to lock their devices and wipe them clean of data if stolen, a victory for regulators who have long pushed the telecommunications industry to do more to stem thefts.

The tool, known as a 'kill switch', can be installed on previous models of iPhones from next Wednesday.
