A new car park will be built at Scott Street in Motherwell.
North Lanarkshire Council will create the 133-space facility on part of the site of the former Cathedral Primary School.
The council has appointed a contractor, Land Engineering, to carry out the construction work which is expected to start next month, with the car park due to open in December.
Councillor James Coyle, convener of North Lanarkshire Council's Planning Committee, said: "There is huge demand for car parking in and around Motherwell town centre, so this new facility will be a significant boost for the area.
"Motherwell is popular for shoppers and people using the local amenities including the library, First Stop Shop and Heritage Centre, so this car park is ideally placed close to the town centre as well as the train station."
