SCIENTISTS on the frontline of Scotland's fight against cancer have kicked off a campaign to drop the drink in the New Year to raise funds for life-saving research.

Dr David Vincent and Dr Kirsteen Campbell of Cancer Research UK's Beatson Institute in Glasgow have signed up for Dryathlon.

They've both promised to ban the booze all January to help beat cancer sooner and are urging Scots to join them.

'Dryathletes' pledge to ditch the drink for a month and either get sponsored or donate the money they would have spent on alcohol to Cancer Research UK.

Nearly double the number of Scots embraced Dryathlon in January 2014 compared with the previous year, with 3,553 people pledging their support and raising £344,800 for life-saving research.
