SCOTLAND'S oldest woman has died aged 110.
Maria Lazzeri was just one month short of her 111th birthday when she died on February 13.
Mrs Lazzeri, of Coatbridge, was born near Pisa, in Italy, and moved to Glasgow's East End with her husband Americo in 1924.
She worked until she was 100, firstly in a chip shop - which she gave up in 1989 after her husband died of a heart attack - and then in local deli Eusebi, where she did three shifts a week making meatballs and cannelloni.
Mrs Lazzeri had three sons - one of whom died last year aged 89 - and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She lived through the time of five monarchs and 22 prime ministers.
She moved into Millbrae Care Home, in Coatbridge, and kept active attending church and forming friendships with other residents and staff.
She regarded herself as both Italian and Scottish and once said she lived a long life by keeping active and "living each day as it comes."
She said she was never scared of hard work and that her family kept her going.
Jessie Gallan, of Aberdeen, is now Scotland's oldest person at 109.
