Three cars have been destroyed as a result of a wilful fire-raising spree in Airdrie.

Emergency services were called to Newbattle Avenue, Calderbank at around 11.45 pm on Monday, March 14 following a report of cars on fire.

Scottish Fire and Rescue fought to extinguish the blaze safely ensuring that no one was injured.

The cars destroyed included, a silver Mercedes ML250, a black Range Rover and a white Citroen Berlingo.

Detectives are now treating the fires as deliberate and are appealing for information to trace four men who were seen in the area at the time.

Three of the men are described as being of slim build. The fourth man is described as being tall and of heavy build. All four were wearing dark clothing.

A dark-coloured car was also seen in the area at the time of the fire.

 

Detective Constable William Murray, of Coatbridge CID, said: "Thankfully nobody has been injured as a result of this reckless act.

"We are treating the fire as deliberate and are asking anyone with any information to get in touch.

"Although this took place in the early hours of the morning, I would ask if you noticed anyone acting suspicious in the area to get in contact with police.

"I would also appeal to anyone who has possible dashcam or CCTV footage that may be able to assist us with our enquiries."
