Campaigners wrote to Glasgow's Lord Provost in an effort to get support for reopening a vital community hub.
Ruchill Community Centre was shut since March 2020, when it was closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Last September, £262,000 was allocated to overhaul the property and bring it back into use.
However, as the Glasgow Times revealed earlier this month, total repairs will now cost an extra £400,000 because the roof needs to be replaced after it was found to contain potentially deadly asbestos.
Activists have been holding demonstrations every Saturday for over two years.
Now, they sent a letter to Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren, to ask for her support.
It read: "This is very important for the community.
"Many people rely on the community centre. Food clubs feeding hungry children daily, and our youth work needs to continue.
"Our elderly and vulnerable, our diverse community residents need Ruchill Community Centre.
"And now with the current news that the community centre will cost more than the allocated amount to open, we have been holding demo protests every Saturday at midday for over two years."
Karen Love, long-time campaigner, said: "I see the lack of facilities in the area affecting the mood of all kids from different age ranges.
"It’s been much used daily up to the lockdown in 2020. Kids and vulnerable families are losing out, especially throughout the pandemic and cost of living crisis.
"We don’t believe anyone gives a jot about Ruchill."
Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren said: “Obviously it’s deeply disappointing to learn about the asbestos at the community centre.
"However, public safety is our priority. Local community services usually offered there are currently being provided at the nearby Ruchill Community Hub, based at the former Ruchill Golf Course Club House at Brassey Street.”
