A man was caught driving a van in Glasgow while disqualified.

Lee Harvey, 46, was on Caldercuilt Road in North Glasgow on August 14, 2022, when officers spotted him loading motorbikes on the road.

Police went to speak to him and it was clear that he was disqualified from driving.

He was arrested, cautioned and charged.

Harvey, of Maryhill, appeared at Glasgow City Sheriff Court this week after he pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance.

His lawyer said: "He is working, he is self-employed.

"He is keen to carry out more unpaid work if it means he won’t be tagged because that would impact his work hours."

Sheriff Allan McKay said: "There was no emergency here, he made a choice to drive the van. He needs to accept the consequences.

"I accept you want to maintain your liberty so you can work. I’m looking for an alternative to custody."

Harvey was sentenced to a year of supervision and was disqualified from driving for one year.

He also needs to complete 270 hours of unpaid work within a year.

The sheriff told him: "If I see that you are trying to avoid responsibility, I will send you to prison."
