Scottish Opera submitted a planning application detailing a huge development, which would completely transform its current North Glasgow site.
Documents reveal an ambitious proposal, which would see student housing, performance and rehearsal spaces, facilities, studios, offices and more built at the New Rotterdam Wharf site.
The applicant says the work "would help to secure Scottish Opera’s presence within Glasgow for the next 60+ years by rationalising and consolidating three of their current scattered five premises under one roof to demonstrate measurable economic, business, and artistic advantage".
These premises include their headquarters at 39 Elmbank Crescent, Charing Cross, and a large orchestra rehearsal space at Hillington Park, Renfrewshire.
Papers reveal the new space would also benefit the Scottish film and TV sector.
The proposed "vibrant, urban block" would have two student accommodation blocks with 700 rooms.
It would also have roof terraces, courtyards, shops, cafe, gym and the bid includes the refurbishment of the exciting Scottish Opera Production Studios.
The design concept would be open and publicly accessible, bettering the canal area and providing a community space.
There are four levels planned, to facilitate the canal environment. The lowest would be the ground floor of the existing building and the highest would be the upper floor of the pavilion.
These would be accessed via different routes.

Altogether, the proposal would utilise approximately half the available space on the New Rotterdam Wharf site.
As the Glasgow Times reported at the time, the applicant carried out extensive consultations last year.
The Scottish Opera has also confirmed that they are in negotiations with a major student accommodation operator about the plans.
Planning bosses from Glasgow City Council are considering the application and a decision is expected by Wednesday, July 24.
