A THUG who ambushed a man down a lane then stole his phone and cash was jailed on Monday for 16 months.

Jamie "Jigsy" O'Rourke, 33, pounced and two others pounced on George Miller in Glasgow city centre on March 2 2023.

Mr Miller was knocked to the ground before the three men were seen to riffle through his pockets.

The attackers made off with their victim's mobile phone as well as a wallet containing £180 in cash.

O'Rourke pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault and robbery of Mr Miller to his injury.

His co-accuseds Mark McGarvey, Darren Finnegan and James Fay had their not guilty pleas accepted by the Crown.

The court heard that O'Rourke, of Rutherglen, two others and their victim walked down the lane near the Nike store on Buchanan Street initially without event.

Prosecutor Ryan Watson said: "Mr Miller fell to the ground as he was knocked on the back of his head."

Two witnesses walking past noted that the three men went through Mr Miller's pockets then fled the scene.

Mr Watson added: "Mr Miller got back up and he noticed that his mobile phone was going along with his wallet which contained £180."

The victim also discovered that there was blood coming from his head.

The matter was then reported to the police.

O'Rourke's lawyer told the court that her client has "little recollection" of the incident and occurred when he was "at his worst."

Sheriff Paul Reid told O'Rourke that he was required to impose a custodial sentence.
