Network Rail is warning travellers that their trains may be affected over the bank holidays.

Passengers are being urged to plan ahead and check their journeys ahead of the bank holidays from May 4 to May 6 and from May 25 to May 27.

Work is being carried out to improve the railway on various routes and some Glasgow services will be affected. 

Saturday May 4

No changes to train services have been announced.

Sunday May 5

Due to engineering work between Dumfries and Carlisle, buses will replace ScotRail trains between Dumfries and Carlisle.

Due to engineering work between Carlisle and Glasgow Central, no Avanti West Coast trains will run between Preston and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh.

Replacement buses will run between: Preston and Carlisle, Carlisle and Glasgow.

Monday May 6

No changes to train services have been announced.

Saturday May 25

Due to engineering work, buses replace ScotRail trains between Glasgow Central and Kirknewton. Minibuses will run between Kirknewton and Edinburgh, calling at Curriehill, Westerhailes, Kingsknowe, Slateford and Haymarket.

Due to engineering work in the Motherwell area, the 06:48 LNER train from Glasgow Central to London Kings Cross will start from Edinburgh at 08:00.

Replacement buses will run between Motherwell and Edinburgh, connecting with train services. From Glasgow Central, you should use other services between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh.

Sunday 26 May

Due to engineering work in the Motherwell area, the 16:30 LNER train from London Kings Cross to Glasgow Central will terminate at Edinburgh. Replacement buses will run between Edinburgh and Motherwell.

For Glasgow Central, you should use other services between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central.

Due to engineering work in the Wishaw area, buses will replace ScotRail trains between Wishaw and Lanark, calling at Carluke. Train services will run between Glasgow Central and Wishaw, calling at Cambuslang, Uddingston, Bellshill, Motherwell and Shieldmuir.

Due to engineering work between Dumfries and Carlisle, buses replace trains between Dumfries and Carlisle.

Monday May 27 

An amended Avanti West Coast service will run due to engineering work taking place between Stafford and Crewe, between Oxenholme and Carlisle, and between Carstairs and Motherwell:

Glasgow Central - Carlisle: Service every 2 hours in each direction
