DETECTIVES have appealed for help in solving the mystery of an 86-year-old woman who was reported missing – more than two years after she was last seen.

Mrs Raj Kaur was last seen by her family at her home in Pollok, Glasgow, in October 2010, as she left for the city's Sikh Temple in Berkley Street.

Strathclyde Police have been carrying out inquiries since she was reported missing last month. Officers said there were concerns for Mrs Kaur's health and wellbeing.

Mrs Kaur, originally from Afghanistan, is described as of Asian appearance, about 5ft 5in, slim build, with brown eyes and grey hair.

When last seen, she was wearing long white clothing and white veil.

Mrs Kaur speaks Punjabi but not English. She is generally in good health but suffers from high blood pressure.

Since she was reported missing, police have been carrying out inquiries with Mrs Kaur's friends and family in Glasgow and in London, where it is believed she may have contacts in the Southall area.

Inspector Paul Quinn, from Pollok Police Office, is appealing for information.

He said: "It is unusual for Mrs Kaur to venture out on her own and certainly for her not to be in contact with her family.

"We know that she used to visit the Sikh temple/Gudwara in Berkley Street, Glasgow, but worshippers there have not seen her for sometime. It was thought that she may have travelled to Southall, however, this has not been confirmed. We have been working closely with her family in Glasgow.

"However, I would ask Mrs Kaur, or anyone who knows of her where- abouts, to contact Pollok Police Office as a matter of urgency to tell us what they know."

Anyone with information is asked to call officers on 0141 532 5600.
