SECC backs energy savings bid

Glasgow's SECC has become the first venue to back a scheme aimed at helping Scottish businesses get their share of energy savings.

The Resource Efficiency Pledge is also being officially backed by the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, whose organising committee will act as ambassadors by promoting it to Games' venues and suppliers.

The scheme is being delivered by Zero Waste Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.

It wants businesses to reap their share of an estimated £2.9bn worth of savings by using energy, water and raw materials more efficiently

Organisers have asked businesses to pick between three and six actions to complete over the course of 12 months.

The SECC has pledged to improve recycling rates and energy efficiency and will be ensuring staff become more efficient.

Alan Cuggy, safety, health and environmental manager for the SECC, said: "The Pledge will provide the inspiration and motivation to enhance our environmental performance in what is a competitive and challenging business."
