CHRISTMAS shoppers were given a helping hand by a squad of Santas in the city centre.

The National Lottery Scratchcard Secret Santa Squad visited Buchanan Galleries and gave special packs to shoppers, which included festive scratchcards.

They were in Glasgow after a survey revealed that 86% of Scots take part in 'Secret Santa' gift giving with workmates.

The most favoured gifts were shopping vouchers, scratchcards or Lottery tickets and sweets, the survey revealed.

It also showed that Glasgow was in the top three cities in the UK with the highest average spend limit for Secret Santa gifts, alongside Edinburgh.

And only 10% of Scottish Secret Santas will reveal their identity.

A total of 46% of respondents said playing Secret Santa makes them feel Christmassy, higher than the UK result of 37%, while 32% said it made them feel happy, while in the UK as a whole, only 25% felt the same.

A National Lottery spokeswoman said: "Secret Santa is supposed to be fun, but finding an excitingly different gift every year is always tricky, so any inspiration is a bonus."
