A new Sheriff Principal for Glasgow and Strathkelvin has been sworn in at the city's sheriff court.

Sheriff Principal Craig Scott was officially appointed as the head of the sheriffdom in a brief ceremony attended by the Lord Provost of Glasgow Bob Winter and legal dignitaries.

Speaking during the ceremony, Sheriff Principal Scott thanked well wishers for the messages of support he has received.

He added: "I am deeply privileged to serve as Sheriff Principal in this sheriffdom where my legal career began some 30 years ago."

Senior Sheriff Kenneth Mitchell also congratulated the new sheriff principal on his appointment.

Sheriff Mitchell said: "It's my privilege and pleasure to congratulate Sheriff Principal Craig Scott on his well deserved appointment as sheriff principal of this sheriffdom.

"We have had the benefit of knowing Craig well as a colleague and friend and he has been an exceptionally well regarded sheriff by his colleagues and all who have appeared before him.

"We look forward to serving under your leadership in the years to come and we wish you every success."

Sheriff Principal Scott, who has served as a sheriff for 12 years, was sworn in to replace retiring Sheriff Principal James Taylor.

Sheriff Principal Scott has presided over many high profile cases – including that of Celtic fan Robert McHendry who ran on to the pitch during an AC Milan match – and fatal accident inquiries.
