TRIBUTES were paid today to one of Scotland's top blues singers who was found dead at home in Glasgow.

"Big George" Watt – frontman of Big George and the Business – was discovered at a house in the Knightswood area.

A statement on the band's website confirmed the death of the 55-year-old. He was found dead on Tuesday.

In January, singer and guitarist George suffered serious burns after fire broke out at Anniesland home.

He spent weeks in intensive care after being rescued from the blaze by a neighbour.

It's thought George was staying at temporary accommodation in Commore Drive, while repairs were carried out to his fire-hit flat.

His friend and former road crew member, Richard Devlin, said the music scene in Glasgow – and beyond – was stunned by George's death.

He said: "Everyone is shocked.

"Although he had been injured in the fire, he was getting better.

"Everyone is just gutted."

Paying tribute to the musician, Richard, who met George in 1984, said: ""George had a great sense of humour and was great fun to be with.

"He was a wonderful singer and guitarist – when I used to go and watch him play, you just couldn't believe you were hearing this quality of music in a pub in Glasgow.

"He will be greatly missed."

Big George and the Business became one of Scotland's top blues acts in the 1990s, touring Europe and America.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "A post mortem examination will be carried.

"However, there would appear to be no suspicious circumstances."

Arrangements for the musician's funeral have not yet been revealed.
