PATIENTS, visitors and staff in the new Southern General Hospital will be able to visit a range of food outlets and shops.

 

A number of quality retailers are to open outlets on the ground floor of the main atirum of the South Glasgow University Hospital.

They will include family favourites Marks and Spencer and W.H.Smith along with new takeaway Souped Up and Juiced.

It is looking for people to staff the operation which will be open every day of the year.

A jobs advert says: "Souped Up & Juiced is a brand new and exciting takeaway concept, situated in the main retail atrium of Europe's largest hospital.

"We require upbeat, enthusiastic and experienced staff to join our team.

"As part of our team you'll be responsible for delivering consistently excellent customer service and an outstanding range of products in an extremely fast paced, high volume takeaway retail store.

"It's as far removed from the standard 9 - 5 as it comes. Early openings (7am) and late closes (10pm) means that we require a fully flexible approach to shift patterns."

Campden Food Co., which specialises in freshly made wholesome foods such as porridge, wraps, salads, Fairtrade chocolate and freshly made muffins, will also open in the atrium alongside cash machines.

There will also be a 500 seat restaurant on the first floor of the building.

Ally McLaws, communications director for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: "These quality retailers will enhance the experience of patients, visitors and staff in this wonderful new hospital.

"These retailers are currently recruiting staff which, it is hoped, will be a further boost to the local area.

"The food outlets are in keeping with our approach to promote good quality and healthy food options.

"The retail outlets are all based on the ground floor of the South Glasgow University Hospital alongside bank cash machines.

"On the first floor atrium level there is a 500 seater restaurant and an Aroma Cafe which is also open to staff and visitors to the hospital."

The new 14 floor South Glasgow adult hospital building is due to be open within months will be one of the largest acute hospitals in the UK.

It will be home to major specialist services such as renal medicine, transplantation and vascular surgery, with state-of-the-art critical care, theatre and diagnostic services.

The new £842million hospital will have 1109 beds and around 10,000 staff.
