The elderly man was taken by RAF rescue helicopter when the vessel, the MV Discovery, was off the north coast of Islay.

The helicopter, from RAF Gannet at Prestwick, had to take a longer journey because of the inclement weather.

Lieutenant Angela Lewis, the crew's navigator and the duty aircraft commander, said: "Conditions for this rescue were poor. We had to fly further than we normally would have at a lower height, just to get to the rendezvous point.
