REVELLERS at Scotland's largest multi-cultural festival are hoping for a summer scorcher...

because they'll be keeping cool in an unusual way.

Organisers of this year's Mela – taking over Kelvingrove Park in June – have promised party-goers an outdoor ice rink.

The 10m by 10m synthetic ice rink will be free to all families and festival-goers on June 23 and 24.

Open from noon until 6pm each day, the rink will host half hour skating sessions with up to 35 skaters allowed on at any one time.

And bosses promise it will be the perfect way to cool down in the summer sun.

Jill Miller, director of culture at Glasgow Life, said: "Glasgow on Ice in George Square saw more than 50,000 thousand people take to the ice this winter.

"But skating in the sunshine, now that definitely has appeal."

The rink takes only four hours to build and two hours to take down after the event.

The Mela will see Kelvingrove Park host some of the biggest names in urban, bhangra and Bollywood music over three stages.

Headline acts, together with the full range of other attractions and activities being staged at the carnival, will be announced soon at www.glasgowmela.com
