A chic Italian furniture company will unveil a new store in Glasgow next month.

Natuzzi, famous for its modern sofas, will open an outlet in a former building society and will be the first stand-alone store in Scotland.

It is a franchise of the upmarket brand, which has a concession in House of Fraser in Buchanan Street.

The owner is Mike MacAllister who already runs furniture store Ogilvies in Inverness.

He said: “Contemporary Italian design, whether it is fashion, furniture or fine art, is greatly admired worldwide and especially in Glasgow, where it already has a strong following.

“The sophistication, style and high quality craftsmanship of the Natuzzi brand is certain to appeal to the discerning Glasgow shopper.

“Natuzzi is a world leader and its name is synonymous with class and elegance.”

Sofas by the company, which was founded in 1959 and is the country’s biggest furniture maker, start at £1520 for a two- seater leather design.

Some sofas and chairs even come with built-in audio systems to plug in for MP3 players.

The shop will open next month and will have five staff who have already been recruited.

Designs by the company, which made more than £525 million last year, are sold in 123 countries under two brands, Natuzzi and Italsofa.
