A Lanarkshire company expects to create up to 40 jobs by expanding into mass-market solar energy systems.

The UPVC Company is taking the lead in helping households slash electricity bills by focusing on photovoltaic cell technology which converts daylight to 100% free electricity.

It is understood to be the first major Scottish firm to have earned accreditation from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme to market and install its solar electricity system and has already taken £100,000 worth of orders.

Company founder and chief executive Jim McGill said: “We will market solar electricity systems in the same way as we have built our windows, doors and conservatory business – by offering high quality products at realistic prices.”
