The 30-year old former Motherwell striker, who now plays in Holland, is accused of assaulting two men at Glasgow's Corinthian nightspot, in Ingram Street, on May 6 last year - hours after being crowned Scotland's player of the year.

He is alleged to have attempted to punch Peter Simpson and seized him by the neck and kicked him.

Liverpool-born Higdon is also accused of attempting to punch Paul Faulds.

Both men were working at the Corinthian at the time of the alleged attacks.

Higdon, also faces a charge of "behaving in a threatening or abusive manner" by shouting, swearing and uttering threats.

The case against him was called at Glasgow's Justice of the Peace Court yesterday, where he was not present.

The court was told he is working abroad and would not be available until later in the year.
