Stars kick-off for Clutha

FORMER Scottish football stars thrilled fans at a special charity match.

Big names including Rangers striker John MacDonald and Celtic's Frank McAvennie lined up for the Celtic v Rangers Old Firm Legends Game at Ashfield Stadium in Possilpark, Glasgow.

Celtic won the match 5-4 in front of a packed crowd.

It was organised by Ashfield Juniors in aid of Glasgow City Council's Clutha Appeal Fund for the families of the 10 people who died when a police helicopter crashed through the roof of the packed pub.

Among the legends who donned their football boots for the match were Andy 'The Goalie' Goram who played for Rangers in the 1990s, former Hearts player Jose Quitongo who currently manages Muirkirk in the Scottish Junior Football Association and Rangers man Charlie Miller.

They showed off their skills on the pitch while fans shouted and cheered from the stands.

The match was the latest in a string of events held across the city in the wake of the Clutha tragedy.

These have included all-day music events, comedy nights and a CD called The Clutha Sessions featuring Esperanza, the ska band which was playing at the pub on the night of the tragedy in November.
