Former strikers John Hartson and Frank McAvennie and midfielder Murdo Macleod competed for the longest drive at the Carrick Course ahead of The John Hartson Foundation Celebrity Golf Day.

The star-studded event, which attracts sporting stars including Celtic manager Neil Lennon, Rangers boss Ally McCoist and ex-Wales international Robbie Savage, will take place on March 18.

Also due to compete are footballers Alan Shearer, Neil 'Razor' Ruddock, former Westlife star Brian McFadden, golfer Marc Warren and TV presenter Dan Walker.

John, who survived testicular cancer in 2009, said: "We are delighted to be bringing the John Hartson Foundation Celebrity Golf Day to Scotland for the first time. It'll be great to see some old friends and catch up on the course and at the dinner in Cameron House.

"Raising awareness of testicular cancer and helping to provide support to people who have cancer means the world to me and I'm grateful to everyone who supports us."

The golf day will be followed by a gala dinner in Cameron House.

Tables are on sale for £1000 per table of 10. Sponsorship packages for the golf day are also available. For details contact Libby Emmerson on 07961 543254.
