SOME of Scotland's most talented musicians have raised more than £200,000 for charity by presenting an annual concert each year for 12 years.

Conductor Alan Craig, Director of Music at Glasgow Clyde College, helps to assemble a chorus of 150 singers and a 45-piece orchestra to perform a Christmas concert at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall.

Proceeds are donated to the Children's Hospice Association (Scotland), known as CHAS.

The latest concert, which took place on December 22, raised £30,600 for the charity, bringing the total amount donated since the event began in 2002 to more than £218,000.

Mr Craig encouraged five of his HND Music students from Glasgow Clyde College to play their part in the recent concert, with three forming part of the chorus and two playing violin.

Mr Craig said: "It is an extraordinary privilege for me to lead these events from which so much money has been raised for such a worthy cause. It is humbling to observe so many people coming together in a spirit of generosity that embodies what Christmas represents.

"The students absolutely loved the experience, which, for some, involved three months of rehearsal. They were delighted to have had the opportunity to perform alongside some of Scotland's top professional musicians to a capacity crowd of 2300 in a wonderful venue.

"I am delighted that we have an ongoing tradition of participation in these events from Glasgow Clyde music and drama students. Some have now been participating for over a decade."
