Commuters can now top up their Subway smartcards at newsagents and convenience stores across the city.
By visiting a Payzone outlet they can put cash on their cards or buy season tickets.
The credit or season ticket is uploaded directly to the Bramble smartcard by contactless technology.
SPT is also looking at topping up online or remotely through smartphones.
David Braddock, director of Nevis Technologies which is behind the system, said: "We have started this process with 45 Payzone outlets located near Subway stations."
Uptake of the Subway smartcard continues to increase with around 230,000 'smart' journeys taking place each week.
