SUBWAY commuters will be treated to the sound of the underground this weekend.

Musicians from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland will be performing music by Bach on Saturday to celebrate what would have been the composer's 330th birthday.

The Conservatoire has teamed up with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport for the unique celebration, which will be replicated in cities all over the world including New York and Budapest.

Musicians will be performing at a number of stations such as Hillhead, Partick and St Enoch from 10am.

RCS Principal Jeffrey Sharkey said: "I am delighted that RCS and SPT are collaborating to bring the uplifting music of JS Bach to commuters in our subway stations.

"It's a great way for our talented performers to share their love of music with a wider audience.

"As a regular subway commuter, I can't imagine a better start to a morning commute."

"Since 2011 musicians across the world including; Venice, Singapore, Seoul, Budapest, Tokyo, across the USA and Toronto have performed Bach for free in subways and public spaces to celebrate Bach's birthday.

"The primary purpose of Bach in the Subways is to bring live Bach to as many people around the world as possible - especially to those who would not normally hear it.

"We believe this is a fun and exciting way to get more people turned onto classical music."
