Sunshine On Glasgow for Proclaimers

GLASGOW is to be the adopted home of brothers Charlie and Craig Reid of The Proclaimers.

Parts of the city are to be turned into Edinburgh as filming starts on the film version of the popular stage show Sunshine On Leith.

The stage musical, which is set to the songs of The Proclaimers, tells the tale of two soldiers returning home to Edinburgh after serving in Afghanistan.

But most of the filming will be in Glasgow.

According to reports today, director Dexter Fletcher will shoot in Edinburgh for less than a week of the six-week filming schedule. To cut costs, locations in Glasgow that resemble Leith will be used.

Glasgow actor and director Peter Mullan, Little Voice actress Jane Horrocks and Angel's Share actor Paul Brannigan will star in the film.

Glasgow-based Black Camel Pictures, which won the rights to adapt the stage show earlier this year, is the studio behind the production.

Lower production costs in Glasgow means the city often stands in for Edinburgh on the big screen.
