A SUSPECTED Ebola patient is being treated in a Scots hospital.

The person, thought to be from Auchtermuchty in Fife, is understood to have recently returned from West Africa and began feeling unwell.

It is understood they have now been admitted by secure ambulance to the infesctious diseases unit in Edinburgh's Western General Hospital, where they are being kept in an isolation unit.

They will be kept under surveillance while medics carry out tests for the killer virus.

A Scottish Government spokesman said: "We are aware that, as a precautionary measure, NHS Lothian has admitted a patient who has returned from West Africa. In line with agreed procedures, the patient will be screened for possible infections including Ebola and will be kept in isolation, again as a precaution.

"Scotland has a robust health protection surveillance system which monitors global disease outbreaks and ensures that we are fully prepared to respond to such situations."

The case is now the second to be treated in Scotland, however unlike Pauline Cafferkey, it is unknown whether this patient has the deadly virus.
