THREE people were rushed to hospital after a collision between two cars.

Emergency services were called to the crash in Carlisle Road, Larkhall shortly after 10am on Monday.

An off-duty firefighter was already helping casualties when fire crews arrived at the scene.

Station Manager David Murdoch, the senior officer at the scene, said: "Firefighter Cameron Barnes from Hamilton passed the incident and immediately moved to assist those involved.

"He remained inside one of the two cars involved in the collision, providing reassurance to a female passenger who said she was experiencing pain.

"The firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the passenger-side door and create space for the medical personnel to assess her condition.

"Two men were walking wounded and in the care of ambulance crews."

All three were taken to Wishaw Hospital.
