Our man Nick is among six top lensmen nominated for the UK Picture Editor's Guild Regional Photographer of the Year prize.

It puts him among the best of Britian's press photographers, picked from hundreds of entries.

Nick said: "I'm really pleased to be short- listed. It means a lot that I've been nominated."

Judges for the award include picture editors from leading national, regional and international publishers and agencies. To be in with a chance Nick had to submit five photos.

He added: "I wanted a varied selection that would show Glasgow at its best as well as having a bit of versatility."

Brodie Duncan, Herald & Times Group multi-media editor, said: "We are all pleased for him. He has a very strong selection and a good variation of photographs that he has entered, so fingers crossed he wins on the night."

Alan Sparrow, UK Picture Editors' Guild chairman, said the awards – to be presented on November 8 in London – are the "ultimate test and celebration of British press photography".
