EVEN though there are still three months until Christmas, time is running out to enter the ballot for tickets for Glasgow's festive lights switch-on.

The deadline to apply for free tickets for the sparkling event in George Square on Thursday, November 15, is this Sunday, September 30.

So far more than 10,000 people have entered for a chance to win tickets for the switch-on which will feature live entertainment and music from 6pm.

The lights will be turned on at 7pm, followed by a fireworks display.

Lord Provost Councillor Sadie Docherty said: "It's clear that tickets for the spectacular event are the hottest in town.

"The switch-on will mark the start of the festive season in Glasgow and what better way to do so than by enjoying a fantastic fun-filled party for all the family? So sign up now to be in with a chance to join the entire city as it celebrates the beginning of Glasgow Loves Christmas 2012."

A total of 15,000 tickets are available for the event which is part of the Glasgow Loves Christmas extravaganza, which includes a full programme of events throughout the city.

Anyone can apply for up to six tickets, but only one application per address is permitted.

Once the ballot – which opened on September 3 – closes, names will be drawn randomly and people will be advised if they have been awarded tickets. Each ticket permits access for one person only and all adults, children and babies must have a ticket to gain access.

To enter visit www.glasgowloveschristmas.com and complete the simple form.

Anyone who does not have access to the internet can visit one of the city's 33 public libraries where staff can assist with the process.
