Top author gets surprise birthday cake

BEST-SELLING American author Jeffery Deaver had something to write home about when he was presented with a surprise birthday cake at a book launch near Glasgow.

The cake to toast his 64th birthday featured the cover of his latest thriller The Skin Collector and was presented to him by Waterstone's at The Avenue Shopping Centre, in Newton Mearns.

Centre manager Michelle McCabe said: "The launch proved to be a great success,with many readers grasping the opportunity to speak to their favourite author.

"We look forward to welcoming Jeffrey back - whether or not it's his birthday."
