EVERY book tells a story for Margaret Houston, a Glasgow librarian who has just received a top award for her work.

A key programmer of children's author events, who also chooses collections for younger readers at the city's 32 public libraries, Margaret won the Librarian of the Year award at the Publishers' Publicity Circle bash in London.

"I am thrilled to receive this award for working on campaigns with the UK's top children's publishers, to inspire Glasgow's children and young people to get the reading habit, and hopefully to go on to enjoy a lifetime of reading for pleasure and all the rewards that brings," she said.

Margaret's work includes programming literary events including Wee Write!, on from March 2 to 7 this year at the Mitchell Library and featuring award-winning children's authors, including Liz Pichon, Steve Feasey, Lari Don and Chris Higgins.

She is also involved with Book Week Scotland and Tesco Summer Bank Reading Challenge.

"Margaret has dedicated her life to ensuring so many of our children and young people can enjoy and benefit from the joy of reading and literacy," said Councillor Archie Graham, chairman of Glasgow Life.

"This award is a tribute to her passion and commitment to public service and I'm delighted that she has been recognised with this great honour."

Wee Write! is part of Glasgow's annual book festival Aye Write! which will celebrate its 10th birthday from 17 to 15 April 2015.
