Top Chinese orchestra on school visit

A WORLD-RENOWNED orchestra gave a performance at a Lanarkshire school.

Pupils at St Aidan's High School, Wishaw, enjoyed a musical treat when the Peking University Chinese Orchestra visited on its first tour outside China.

Thirty members of the 70-strong group performed a concert featuring traditional Chinese instruments. The group also performed with the North Lanarkshire Schools Symphony Orchestra.

The event was organised by the Tapestry Partnership in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council and supported by the Scottish Government, Creative Scotland and the Confucius Institute.

Professor Nigel Osbourne of Edinburgh University, said: "This group represents some of China's elite students."

St Aidan's headteacher Tony Rooney said: "This was a wonderful occasion."
