AN award-winning restaurant is to expand with the creation of 50 new jobs.

Planning permission has been granted to build a £500,000 state-of-the-art kitchen at Mushtaqs in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire.

The expansion will allow the restaurant to cook 4000 meals every night with dozens of extra staff required.

The 50 new positions will be split across chefs, telephone operators, kitchen assistants and delivery drivers.

The restaurant was crowned best home delivery and takeaway restaurant in Britain at the recent British Curry Awards. With 18 chefs, it has a current output of one freshly cooked meal every 10 seconds at peak times and is unable to expand on this due to the size of the current kitchen.

Owner Ajmal Mushtaq set up a training and progression programme for young people in the area.

Mr Mushtaq said: "I am very excited at the prospect of creating new jobs and this new investment will enable us to further build on this success."

The 50 jobs will be recruited in a programme starting in early 2014.
