Sir Harry Burns, the Chief Medical Officer for Scotland, will deliver the annual lecture to launch the festival celebrating Glasgow's patron saint.

Tomorrow's Molendinar Lecture will mark the start of the fourth celebration of the life of St Mungo.

Sir Harry, who was born in Glasgow and educated at Glasgow University, will speak on the topic 'How society creates wellness'.

City council leader Gordon Matheson said: 'The St Mungo Festival is now a well-established part of Glasgow's events calendar.

"I am very pleased the 2014 Molendinar Lecture will be given by Sir Harry Burns, Chief Medical Officer for Scotland and of course a son of Glasgow.

"I look forward to a memorable series of events over the next 10 days."

The lecture, which is a ticket only event, takes place in the City Chambers.
