Youngsters from St Andrew's Secondary, Carntyne, won the Crest Award for the most creative project at silver level for their project on transforming waste in their school.

And pupils from the High School of Glasgow took the Best Crest Science and Maths Award at bronze level for their CERN in a Box project.

Murray Webster, Sam Quinn, Matthew Rossetter, Jonathon Honey and Alexander Houghton designed, built and tested a cloud chamber which was then used to detect sub-atomic particles.

St Andrew's pupils Dorcas Baah, Marta Fonsecca, Jack Hutton, Lea Dzurjanikova, Che Donachie and Christopher Semple were rewarded for their ideas for transforming waste in the school.

The pupils received their prize from Grant Paton, head engineering and technology judge from NCR, at The Big Bang Scotland Fair 2013, at the SECC.

The British Science Association's Crest Awards programme recognises science, technology, engineering and maths project work.
