A GLASGOW nightclub has introduced a strict age limit for events following the suspected drugs death of a schoolgirl.

Bosses at The Arches have decided to stop anyone under 21 from attending club nights following a policy review. The ban starts immediately.

Regane MacColl, 17, from Duntocher, Dunbartonshire, died in the early hours of Sunday, February 2 after becoming ill inside the city centre club.

Police believe the death of the teenager, who was a pupil at St Peter The Apostle High, Clydebank, could be linked to ecstasy tablets known as Mortal Kombat.

Following the tragedy, club nights at The Arches were cancelled for two weeks.

A spokesman from The Arches said they would now be introducing a new entry policy.

He said: "Since the tragic events of February 2, The Arches has been working closely with Police Scotland's licensing division to review our policies and do even more to ensure a safer clubbing environment within the venue.

"With immediate effect all club events will be open to over-21s only and valid ID will be required for entry.

"Anyone under 21 who has bought tickets for future club events at The Arches should return them to the point of purchase for a full refund. No refunds will be issued on the door of an event.

"The Arches operates a strict zero tolerance drugs policy and is committed to a best practice approach to protecting the health and safety of its customers, whom we urge to act responsibly at all times."

A police spokeswoman said: "Following discussions The Arches has elected to implement some changes to its operating procedures.

"Inquiries are continuing and a report will be submitted to the licensing board in due course."
