Trains hit landslips after torrential rain

HEAVY rain and landslides have caused travel disruption.

Glasgow escaped the worst of torrential downpours but a train travelling to the city from Oban struck a landslip yesterday.

It did not leave the tracks and Scotrail said none of the 69 people on board was injured, though trains in the area were delayed.

A spokeswoman said: "Passengers were transferred into the rear two coaches, which returned to Oban."

In Fife a train travelling from Rosyth to Dunfermline was derailed by a landslip in Dunfermline. No-one was injured.

Elsewhere, residents in Stirling were given sandbags, and two nurseries and several roads in the city were closed due to rain.
