Rebecca Stracey, 17, receiving the milestone kidney donation from her mother Penny.

Rebecca was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure and Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis Type 1 in 2013 and has been on dialysis since then.

She said: "I could sleep for 16 hours a day and when I woke up I would still be tired, with no energy."

The staff at Yorkhill and the Western Infirmary supported Rebecca and Penny as they made the transplant journey together.

Rebecca said: "The difference in how I feel is unreal. I can't remember the last time I felt this good."

"I'm so thankful to my Mum for doing such an amazing thing for me."

The Evening Times is campaigning for an opt-out system of organ donation in Scotland to help increase the pool of donors and save more lives.
