Former Neighbours star Jason Donovan took a break from rehearsals to enjoy a quick burst of Glasgow sunshine.

He was joined by his, Sound of Music family as they strolled down Elmbank Street.

The singer and actor took to the King's Theatre stage last night for the opening of the much-loved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.

He plays the male lead, Captain Von Trapp, opposite Hairspray actress Verity Rushworth, who appears as the feisty former nun, Maria.

The play centres on the love story between the captain and the singing nun set against the Anschluss – the Nazi occupation and annexation of Austria in 1938.

As the couple fall in love and flee the Nazi invaders, a whole catalogue of well known songs are sung, including Edelweiss, My Favourite Things and Climb Every Mountain; hills are climbed and daring escapes take place.

n The Sound of Music, King's Theatre, until June 4.
