Police have launched an investigation after shots were fired at a house on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

Detectives sealed off the area around the property, near Edinburgh Airport, and police officers conducted door-to-door enquiries seeking witnesses to the attack.

Four police cars and a van were called to the scene, just off the Newbridge roundabout on the Glasgow Road at around 6am on Tuesday.

It has been reported that the home is connected to convicted fraudster Robert Kelbie, and has previously been targeted by gunmen.

Pictures from the scene showed a bullet hole in the window of the conservatory.

In November 2013 the home was strafed with bullets by a gunman who allegedly made his escape on a dark coloured motorbike.

Officers are appealing for information on two men wearing dark clothes who were seen in the area when the shots were fired.

Police said a silver Saab estate car, spotted in Ratho Station, was later found abandoned in a remote area off the A71 near to the turn-off for Kirknewton and East Calder.

Forensic investigators arrived at the property around lunchtime yesterday to begin carrying out tests.

Detective Inspector Alan O'Brien said: "Fortunately, no-one within the property or in the surrounding area was hurt as a result of this reckless and very dangerous act.

"We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and believe that this was a targeted attack. We are keen to hear from anyone who has information that is relevant to this inquiry.

"In particular, we want to hear from anyone who saw the two males in dark clothing within the Ratho Station area.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone who saw a silver Saab estate vehicle in the Ratho Station area.

"In addition, any residents within East Calder who believe they saw the men making off from the abandoned Saab should also get in touch."
