APPLE has revamped its iPhone line-up with three new flagship handsets, including the most expensive in the company's history.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus both support wireless charging for the first time, as well as improved cameras and processors, while the X is the company's first edge-to-edge screen and facial recognition technology.

The global tech giant has also just rolled out the 'gold master' build of iOS 11 to developers and public beta testers ahead of its official launch on September 19.

This version of iOS 11 should be very close to finished with most of the bugs ironed out - after a record-breaking 10 beta updates over the past few months - but there’s still a chance you’ll need to download an update on release day.

If you don’t feel like waiting until next Tuesday, you can install iOS 11 today just by signing up for the public beta program on Apple’s website.

Once that’s done, you just open the beta website with Safari on your iPhone or iPad and follow the directions. You’ll download a profile to your iOS device, restart it, and then head to the update menu - make sure to back up your device before starting the upgrade. Apple spells out how to do that here.

OS 11 will download onto your device, and once it’s ready, you can start the install process. After that, your iPhone or iPad will restart. You might have to sign into your Apple account again and reconfigure some settings the first time you boot up iOS 11, but then you’ll have the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system and the new features that come with it.

Top features include animated emojis, new camera modes designed to take advantage of the dual-lens versions of the iPhones, screen recording, one-handed keyboards and the introduction of Face ID to replace/augment Touch ID.

The overhauled Control Centre is a thing of beauty, multitasking on the iPad is much more powerful and makes it perform just like a Mac and screenshots now come with a whole new bag of editing options.

Once iOS 11 is installed, you can leave the beta program and delete the profile that you downloaded, but it's probably wiser to wait until the 19th so you’re sure this build and the official release version are the same.
