A SPEEDWAY legend will be honoured with a special evening of memories and celebration.

James Grieves, who retired last month after a 23-year career, will take part in an evening for fans and colleagues at the Marriott hotel on Saturday.

The 39-year-old Glasgow Tigers rider from Elderslie bowed out of the sport after a spectacular career which saw him claim three League titles with the Tigers, a Premier League Pairs title and two Knock Out Cups as well as several titles with his three other clubs.

Now fan-led promotional group STARs is hosting an Evening with James Grieves to look back over the high points of his time in the sport.

James, who is a member of the Tigers Hall of Fame and second in Glasgow's all-time points scorers list, has vowed to lay bare the secrets of the sport to anyone who asks the right questions.

He said: "I'm looking forward to it - hopefully a few folk turn up to support it. And I'm looking forward to having a few conversations with people.

"If they're asking me questions, I'll tell them some wee bits about my career - and maybe a few home truths if anybody asks me some controversial questions.

"I won't be shy in answering. It should be a good night and I'm pretty honoured that the STARs group have arranged a night around me.

"I'm quite chuffed about it. I'll just sit back and enjoy the night. Hopefully everybody else enjoys it. That's what it's all about."

Last month, the Evening Times reported how police had launched an investigation into a fire at Ashfield Stadium, the home of the Tigers.

Police said at the time they believed the fire was started deliberately.

Club bosses warned the extent of the damage could throw into the question the future of the club.

A spokeswoman from Police Scotland said inquiries were continuing into the fire at Ashfield Stadium.

An Evening with James Grieves starts at 7pm and admission is £10 for adults, £8 for concessions, £2 for children under 16 and free to members of the Growlers Club.
