TRIBUTES have been paid to a student who died in a car crash.
Kirsty Findlay, 17, who was originally from the Glasgow area, was a front-seat passenger in a Ford Fiesta when it collided with a Transit van.
Her mother, Fiona Findlay, 46, who was travelling in the back of the car, was airlifted to hospital and is in a stable condition.
The driver of the Fiesta, a 19-year-old man, was also injured in the crash but has left hospital.
The 52-year-old van driver has been bailed by police.
The crash happened on the A170 near Pickering, in North Yorkshire, at around 8.50am on Friday.
Kirsty, of Ebberston, near Scarborough, had moved with her family from Glasgow around four years ago.
She was in her first year at York College where she studied beauty.
Jayne Laverick, head of division for hair and beauty at York College, said: "Students and staff are shocked and deeply upset by the news of Kirsty's death.
"She was such a lovely girl and a totally committed student."
