AN annual charity lunch that has raised more than £850,000 will celebrate its 20th anniversary - and is hoping its Glasgow date will take the total to more than £1million.

Quarriers Noel Lunch has funded major projects across the city that have transformed the lives of vulnerable families.

The projects have included the William Quarrier Scottish Epilepsy Centre in Govan.

This year, the lunch will be on December 6 and it will celebrate two decades of fundraising success as well as Quarriers' status as the national charity for the 2014 Ryder Cup.

Scottish comedian Rory Bremner will host the event at the Marriot hotel and organisers are hoping some extra special prizes will raise in excess of £141,000 to bring the grand total to £1million.

Every year the lunch has a theme and this year it is all things golf. An auction will include highly prized six-day passes for the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.

The cash raised will go towards the charity's Coaching For Life programme, which aims to help disadvantaged young people raise their ambitions.

Phil Genoe, chairman of the Noel Lunch committee, which organises the event, said: "The auction prizes will top anything we have had before and there will be more of them.

"There will be a live bidding system so it can be done at the table.

"I would be delighted if it broke six figures. If it broke £141,000 it would take our total to seven figures and that would really be a special one.

"There would be a few corks being popped then. I am excited and looking forward to it."

About 450 people are expected to attend this year's lunch, including big name supporters of the charity.

The Noel Lunch committee was launched in 1993 by Lord John McKay of Ardbrecknish, who was the first chairman.

Proceeds help all areas of Quarriers, including brain injury, young homelessness and epilepsy.

l Single seats for the lunch cost £50 and a table for 10 is £500. To book call Robyn Friel on 01505 616162 or send an e-mail to: robyn.friel@quarriers.org.uk/
