Singing star Joe McElderry helped raise £30,000 at a charity ball.

The X Factor and Popstar to Operastar winner was guest performer at the glittering event, hosted by Renfrewshire Provost Celia Lawson.

The cash will be split between the Provost's charities for this year, St Vincent's Hospice, in Howwood, and Accord Hospice, in Paisley.

McElderry performed for guests at Mar Hall, Bishopton, along with local talents Sorcha Lynch, Kiera Swift and Jenna Milroy.

The event was compered by STV weatherman Sean Batty.

One lucky guest came away with a little extra sparkle after winning a diamond necklace worth more than £400 in the Diamond Draw and the winner of a car, donated by Phoenix Hyundai, was also chosen from thousands of raffle tickets sold during the summer.

The Provost's Charity Ball has raised £88,000 for charity since being introduced by Provost Lawson in 2007.

She said: "I wanted this ball to be the best yet and it didn't disappoint. Joe was fantastic, Sean was an excellent compere and the performers were a great example of the talent we have on our doorstep.

"What impressed me the most was the amazing generosity of all the guests."
