AN art exhibition staged by a twin to help her sister who has cancer raised £12,000 in a week.

As first told in the Evening Times, Katie Beattie organised the art sale to raise cash for the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT).

The 21-year-old was moved to help after seeing her twin, Judith, treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), at its ward at Glasgow's Beatson cancer centre.

Katie set herself a £4000 target, which was quickly smashed after she raised £6000 in less than 24 hours.

Her funding total is now at £12,000 - and the sale is continuing on Facebook.

Katie, a Glasgow Caledonian University psychology student, said: "To raise so much so quickly was a real surprise and a fantastic response.

"I'd like to thank everyone who contributed to the exhibition, especially Robert Gould who helped enor-mously with the organisation of the event and Skypark and Life With Art for lending us the space.

"We are still selling art-work through the Facebook page, including a unique piece by John G Moore, so please get in touch if you would to like brilliant artwork, with all proceeds going to a great cause."

Last month the Evening Times told how Judith, a student at Dundee, was diagnosed with ALL on September 10 last year.

Following a blood test, Katie, from Bridge of Weir, was admitted to hospital straight away and was there for four months.

Judith, a fine art student at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of art and Design in Dundee, was allowed home just after Christmas. Her treatment will continue for two years.

Angela Higgins, director of Resonance Capital and joint venture partner of Skypark, said: "It's wonderful to hear how successful the exhib-ition has been. We hope the proceeds make a significant difference to TCT."
