ScotRail has issued advice for football fans heading to Hampden for the Scottish League Cup semi final on Sunday, 1 February.

The train operator is advising Celtic and Rangers football fans of the best ways to travel by rail on the day.

Extra carriages will be added to trains between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida for Rangers fans, and between Central and Kings Park for Celtic fans.

Alighting at these stations will make it easier for supporters to access their designated stand after getting off the train.

Queuing systems will be in place at Glasgow Central on the outbound journey, and at Mount Florida and Kings Park stations on the return.

There will be extra ScotRail staff and British Transport Police at stations to assist customers on the day.

As with all major events, an alcohol ban will be in place on trains to and from the match to ensure all customers can safely enjoy their day and have a pleasant journey. Customers under the influence of alcohol may be refused travel at any time due to safety reasons.

Fans can help ensure their journeys run smoothly by:

- Buying tickets in advance

- Allowing extra time for travel

- Considering travelling earlier in the day as they may not be able to

board the first train they aim for

- Being prepared to stand and offering seats to those who may

appreciate them

A ScotRail spokeswoman said: "This is a big day for football so we will ensure every available extra carriage is in use in order to transport the high numbers of passengers expected.

"Services will be very busy so everyone should plan ahead and leave plenty of time to travel.

"Additional ScotRail staff will be in stations to give guidance to customers, so please listen to their advice."

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "The alcohol restrictions, which will be enforced by BTP officers, ensure a more pleasant journey for everyone.

"Don't risk not seeing what promises to be a great match just because you may have drank too much, and respect other passengers who may not be travelling to or from Hampden for the game."
