Aggreko set to power 2014

THE latest official supporter of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will be helping to shed light on Scotland's greatest sporting extravaganza.

Glasgow-based Aggreko is a world leader in the specialist field of temporary power systems which will be used at 13 venues as well as the Athletes Village which will be home to more than 6000 competitors and officials.

Aggreko which is headquartered in the East End will supply a battery of 103 generators connected to a network of more than 1000 distribution boards with the aid of 124 miles of cables. The power systems will be kept active round the clock throughout the Games by a team of engineers and technicians.

The company's chief executive Rupert Soames said: "We are absolutely delighted to be an official supplier to Glasgow 2014 and to be playing a key role in staging an event that will showcase this wonderful city and its people."

Commonwealth Games Minister Shona Robison added: "I am pleased to welcome Aggreko, yet another major company joining the Games family, to help power what we hope will be the greatest Games ever."
